Saturday
It
was a cold and rainy morning and we had a trip to go to. The trip was arranged
by the university, UESTC. Our trip today was to the 2200 Year Irrigation and
the Green City Mountain (Qing Cheng Shan). First stop was the Irrigation. At
the vicinity, we saw many statues of men being set up along the way to the
waterways. Also we passed through this fortune dragon that shoot out water from
its mouth. It is said by Mr Teh that if we want to get good fortune like for
example an A for our AC Circuit module, we should pat the dragon’s head and I did!
Well just in case anyways, I mean who wouldn’t want good fortune in life right?
While we walk around to view the place, I managed to have some interaction with
one of the student leaders that came together with us. Even though she wasn’t
confident in conversing in English, I can see that she really tried her very
best and among all the student leaders I talked to, her English vocabulary
wasn’t really that bad. It was an experience talking to her as I tried to
understand on what she is trying to convey to me while I add up on my Chinese
vocabulary. But for her, she tried to slowly understand what I was trying to
say as she adds up her English vocabulary. The other student leader, who is a
guy, is very kind and generous. He would always ask us if we were alright and
he even treated a group of us soda flavored ice cream genuinely. As a student
leader, I think that he really is a responsible one and really did his job in
taking care of us among all the student leaders that followed us to any trip.
Not only that, he is quite well spoken in English and it’s easy to talk to him.
Next,
we went to the Green City Mountain. My first thought of the place when I heard
the name of it was a very clean city, just like Singapore, but the only
different was that it would be on a mountain top. However it was not what I had
expected. Only a group of us, Huiting, Faiz, Darren, Andy, Weijie, Wan Fa,
Joel, Aqil, Adey, me and the two student leaders went to climb up the
mountains. The weather was freezing cold when we climb up the mountain. The
only way up the mountain was by stairs which most of it was not made properly.
Thus I had a hard time going down the mountain and the whole trip up was really
very tiring to the extent that I could feel my muscle at both my legs being
sore all over while climbing up. When
resting at a seating shade area, we were swarm by a handful of women trying to
sell souvenirs at cheap prices. It was irritating at first but I just let it
pass and continue on. We continue to climb up to the top of the mountain but
only managed to climb maybe halfway up since we were too exhausted. But we got
to look at the mountain’s beautiful and refreshing scenery at a temple stop
place. We even got to rest awhile while taking photos with the scenery.
