Wednesday
Right
after the afternoon class, a group of guys from my course invited Raidah,
Aisyah and I to eat at Macdonald which is about three bus stops away from the
UESTC campus. We met up at the West school gate and took a tuk-tuk ride to the
Macdonald. While on the tuk-tuk ride, I thought that the three bus stop journey
would took about 15 minutes or so. But however it took about more than 30
minutes which does not feel like the 3 bus stop duration like back in
Singapore. My first tuk-tuk experience was very interesting and fun as we had a
really bumpy and windy ride. There is about 14 of us, so we divided among
ourselves, 4-4-4-2 style since we hired the four-seat tuk-tuk.
When
we reached our destination, we saw a single two-storey tall Macdonald building
which looks very modernized. The interior design is pretty much the same as
compared to Singapore and I was really surprised by that. They even had a
McCafe section made available in the building. What more a shocking experience
was that there is even black and white sesame bread being sold as one of the
burgers sold in the fast food restaurant as there are no such burgers in
Singapore. After the consumption of the junk foods, we decided to explore
around the area right before we went back to campus again.
While
walking around, we encountered a ‘Wall-mart’ which looks very similar like
Singapore’s ‘Giant’. They sell to outmost anything like foods, clothing, house
appliances and well, whatever you name it, they have it! Since I was not
prepared for the harsh cold weather during the Jiu Zhai Gou trip that I would
be going starting tomorrow, I bought two apparels, a jacket and a sweater. But
I got ripped off from my money. In other words, I kind of got cheated. While I
was taking the clothes that I wanted to buy, I saw a a discounted price tag of
RMB 99 on top of the shelves with a group of clothes. However by the time I had
to pay for it, I was charged about RMB 300 and when checked I was told that the
discount for that particular shirts is over and they follow the price on the
tag which is more than RMB 100. I was really angry at first but then I just let
it be since nothing could be done and it was partly my fault not to double
confirm on the discount before purchasing it. However, I still think that it’s
also partly wrong for them to group the clothes that were on discount and those
that just recently ended together since it will cause confusion just like what
I had experienced. They should be more organized to prevent such things from
happening because when I went shopping in Singapore during sales or discount
fares, I had never encountered such cheating experience like this before. After
this experience, I feel a little paranoid to go shopping in shopping districts
here in China, because I do not want to be cheated of my money again.
