Day One. Week One.
 Tuesday

At the airport, I was reluctant to go and check-in because I didn’t want to leave Singapore nor my parents. However, together with my class mates, we threw that feelings aside and said our final goodbye to our loved ones. Then, we went to check-in together and try to stay positive as possible. Also, we try to prepare ourselves for the upcoming challenges that we might have to overcome during our five week stay in China. It was my first time to ride an airplane and I was really very excited about it. Despite that anxiety, I was disheartened to know that I had the seat near to the aisle. But in a turn of events, a passenger that was supposed to be sitting at the window seat didn’t board the plane. So I was lucky enough to exchange my seat and got the window view on my very first trip on the plane. I was jubilant and really enjoyed the whole trip as I got to witness the stunning view from above the clouds.

By the time we touched down to Chengdu, China, I began to open my eyes and scan through my surroundings. My first impression was that Chengdu seems to be similar like Malaysia. Also, I found that the atmosphere and the air here in Chengdu is really very hazy and unhealthy. From there, I tend to prepare myself of every worse possibility so as to not keep my hopes high up. When we reached the school grounds, I was really shocked by it. The university really seems to be different from what I had expected. The campus is really big and complex. By the time we settle in to our own individual rooms, I had the fright of my life to the extent that I almost had a mental breakdown. I was actually deceived by the exterior structure of the building. From first glance, it seems pretty fine and liveable but however when we finally settled into our rooms, there is where all hell breaks loose.

All of our rooms were in a state of catastrophe. It was dirty, filthy, filled with cobwebs and dusts that accumulated due to I don't know how many days, months or even years, of neglect. From then on, the university's student leaders brought us to the business district so that we can buy the necessary house cleaning items to get us started in cleaning the room. Everyone of us were in frenzied around the super market buying cleaning equipments. Even though it was a horror at first, thinking back, this turn out to be a really fun experience since we were really forced to be fully independent and throw our spoil-brat attitudes at bay of Singapore. Me and my roommate, Shinyi were busy scrubbing and cleaning the floors through out the night until we finished at 2am plus. With satisfaction in our hearts, we make do of the room by making it feel like home, since that will be our only place of shelter during our five weeks stay here in Chengdu, China.
